Over twenty million visitors passed through Palma Airport last year confirming Mallorcaīs position as a favourite destination for tourists and property owners. Palma is now the third busiest airport in Spain, behind Madrid and Barcelona. Apart from the obvious attraction of a beautiful all year round climate, Mallorca offers a stunning landscape of everything that is wonderful about the Mediterranean. The contrast between golden beaches, beautiful countryside and dramatic mountain ranges make the island not only a unique place to visit, but also provides assurance in the continued buoyancy of the property market.

The growth in visitor numbers has been supported and encouraged by the number of charter and low cost airlines flying into Palma, thus making world wide travel and especially inter-european travel easy and affordable. With a population in the region of one million, the international diversity of the people living here gives a cosmopolitan feel to many places on the island. Mainland Spaniards continue to buy second homes in Mallorca and there is now more activity from buyers in Ireland, Holland, France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Scandinavian countries. Germany and the United Kingdom continue to take the most significant share of the market with a rapidly increasing number of wealthy Russians coming to enjoy this unique island.

The market is quite diverse, ranging from apartments through to villas and fincas with some properties fetching prices in excess of 20 million euros. The availability of high quality real estate has proved of great interest to affluent business people and companies who wish to take advantage of the islandīs infrastructure and at the same time retain privacy, factors which have not been overlooked by an ever increasing number of international companies and investors.

Sports personalities and celebrities find a similar attraction in investing in Mallorca. Michael Douglas, Claudia Schiffer, Andrew Lloyd Webber, the Corrs and Boris Becker to name a few, now all owning property on the island. Those people who know the island well take advantage of the wide range of activities available.
